Michiganders and temperatures

While waiting for the temps to climb here in Florida's panhandle I've had some time to think about how Michiganders view/deal with seasons and temperatures.

Winter:  20 degrees and sunny = standing outside, bundled up, face turned up toward the sun, smiling.

Winter:  40 degrees = strappy T's and flip flops

Spring:  60 degrees = on the beach

Summer:  80 degrees = inside bitching about the damn heat!

  1. You pretty much nailed it! The difference is 60 degrees on the Beach makes you look like your from Michigan. The locals of course think your crazy.

    1. Dill - all I could think of was my girlfriend from St.Pete; she wouldn't have been caught dead with us yesterday.

  2. Those of us who are snowbirds with bodies that no longer recognize cold temps can recognize those newly arrived from the north. They are the ones in shorts, tees and the pool when it is 45 here. Meanwhile I am in jeans and long sleeves if it isn't 70. 80 degrees is just about warm enough for shorts. Never does get hot in Michigan anymore. Perspective is everything. A warmup is coming. Enjoy your time here in Florida. Joyce

    1. Joyce - we did make it to the beach yesterday but fully clothed. We sat for a while and then took a stroll on the sand but that was it.

  3. How right you are. I remember my first Spring in Michigan (in 1975)...the first sunny weekend day with the temperature in the low 50s and people were driving around with their convertible tops down. I had not lived in the state long enough to understand, but I soon learned. Linda K.

    1. Linda - I think those same people are sitting down on the beach here right now!
