Eating down

No, this isn't a blog about dieting - although I should insert a shout-out to the "Lose It" app and to my friend, Paula, who turned me onto it - no this is about the food in your fridge/pantry.

If you've ever left your home for an extended period of time (can you say "Snow Bird?"), you know what eating down means.

You don't want to leave food hanging around that will spoil and can't be frozen so EAT UP! Hmmm, wonder why we don't say EAT DOWN instead of EAT UP?  I'll give that some more thought.  Don't wait for me, though.

That's exactly what Petey and I have been doing in preparing for our trip to Florida - tomorrow.

If you've been looking at the national weather map you know tomorrow and the next day are going to suck the big one for travelers. So we've postponed our departure until Friday - maybe Saturday.

We just scraped together some eggs, two pieces of bread that were lacking in desire and a hamburger bun that went into the toaster so I could pretend it was not a hamburger bun.  I even flattened it with the heel of my hand.  Not bad, not bad at all.

Tomorrow the cupboards will be bare and we now have to get through two more unscheduled days at home.   No prob, we'll just scoot downtown for a few meals.

Oh, wait.  Everything is closed because THE WEATHER IS SO HORRID!!!

I think the grocery store is still open and it's only 2 blocks away.

Life in the mitten - gotta love it.  Not all the time, though.

My 70th birthday

The day began with a teeny tiny disappointment in that I didn't get to start the celebration with my Jazzercise friends.  Mother Nature wasn't playing nice.  School was cancelled and so was Jazz.
But one has to carry on in the face of grave sadness (snicker) so I lounged around reading a good murder mystery until it was time for lunch.
This is the view from our local coffee shop (MugShots) that makes and serves the best lunches!

This wrap was divine.

What does one do after consuming a fabu sammie?
Go looking for something sweet.
Ah ha!  Found it at our local candy store.

It was a quick walk (right next door) to the lovely gift shop in downtown Allegan - Hathaway Cottage.
I love candles if the scent is light and we found just what I was looking for.  It's actually burning right now.  Can you smell it?

I mentioned how Mother Nature was trying to trip us up on dinner plans but we strapped on our earmuffs and drove to Four Roses.
I know, I know - what's with this picture?  I was so hungry and totally forgot to take a picture of the wonderful fish dish.

And here is pretty much what the whole day was about.  My goal was to have chocolate cake-ish something to soften the blow of turning 70.  I knew I'd find it at Four Roses - they never disappoint.

So now that all is said and done - I survived.  It still sounds weird to hear myself say I'm 70.  I was going to check my birth certificate to make sure, hoping a mistake had been made, but I knew my sisters would keep me honest.

It was a good day and I look forward to many, many more.
