I believe I've already established that I am not a fan of winter. So with that in mind, I have a question for you.
Do you think you could live in an area completely different than the climate you have lived in all your life?
Like moving, permanently, to Arizona? Or Alaska? Naturally, that question only applies to people who don't already live in those two states. You understand my question, though, right?
I never thought I could but I'm into heavy contemplation right now. Blame it on the never-ending snow. I know for sure I could go elsewhere for Jan., Feb. and March. Maybe that would be enough to take the edge off of winter.
My son lived in England for 6 years. Then he moved to Japan for 3. I thought for sure that the pull of his roots would bring him back to the US one day but maybe not. He's taken up residence in Thailand now. So the whole "roots" thing may not hold true for everyone.
I think I might be able to live year round in one of the Carolinas or Virgina or Tennessee but not further south or west.
Food for thought.
I moved from Allegan to Washington 21 years ago.I never regreted it.The only thing I miss is all the small lakes to fish.We looked at North Carolina and Arkansas also.I don't miss the weather at all.
ReplyDeleteI assume you mean Washington state and if I assume that then I would guess that you are Jim Coffey? Am I correct?
DeleteFrom Allegan to Washington is quite a change. The northwest is on my bucket list.
yes this is Jim.the reply as:threw me off as to what to choose.a bit wet in the winter, but you can still get outside and do things.it got up to 49 today.
DeleteNice to hear from you ,Jim. If you want to comment in the future, you can do the same - anonymous - just type your name in the comment box so I'll know who I'm talkin' to.
DeleteNo place is perfect all year around. Have you been in the Carolinas, Virginia or Tennessee in mid summer. Too hot, too humid. And then there is tornado season and the mountains of those states get snow and a lot of rain. All of my left behind Michigan people are a little sick of snow and stressed out about now. Hang in there and think spring thoughts and how nice spring can be right where you are. Nothing like our lakes for summer fun either. Yes, I am very glad to be sitting in Florida right now though. Aren't you coming down this year? Joyce
ReplyDeleteI hear ya, Joyce. I was in Nashville years ago in July and it was hotter there than in Miami!
DeleteYes, we're coming down. We'll be in Destin by Fri. afternoon if the rains don't sweep us away on our way. We're staying in the same condo as last year for the month of March. I'm counting the nano-seconds.
I love Western North Carolina and Eastern Tennessee...beautiful. If we ever move I think it will have to be overseas of maybe Northern California or Oregon Coast or somewhere near water. I hate the thought of being land-locked.
ReplyDeleteMaybe the three month away thing is the easiest answer??
I couldn't imagine living out of the country but I know you have that French thing goin' on.
DeleteI never thought this time in my life was going to be so full of decisions. Interesting.
We like the way we do it...two to three months in the low country of South Carolina. It is not as warm as Florida, but generally upper 50s-60s in January and February with pockets of 70s. March is usually great with mid 70s, and gorgeous azaleas everywhere. this year has been cooler than usual, but still lighter jacket or cotton sweater weather. I recommend trying it. Linda K.
ReplyDeleteSouth Carolina coast!
ReplyDeleteJudging by the short reply and the exclamation point, I'm guessing this comment was submitted by my friend, Melissa Warner. Am I right?
DeleteWe have considered the SC coast for a winter month but it can't possibly be warmer than FL's panhandle - which isn't all that warm in March.
If I could ever convince Petey to spend 3 months down south (never gonna happen), it would be the St.Pete area.
We'll just have to see how life rolls as time passes, eh?
